Hearing before the Subcom on International Economic Policy and Trade and
the Subcom on Asia and the Pacific to review the Agreed Framework signed
Oct. 21, 1994, by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea),
and the U.S. to resolve the North Korean nuclear weapons threat to
international security.
Framework includes provisions requiring North Korea to stop building
certain nuclear reactors and fuel reprocessing plants and to dispose of
spent reactor fuel safely, in exchange for international community
contribution to North Korea of light water reactors and heavy oil for
production of electric power. Also provides for future inspection of nuclear
waste facilities.
Supplementary material (p. 53-136) includes witnesses' prepared
statements and written replies to Subcom questions.
