Hearing before the Subcom on Asian and Pacific Affairs to examine
implications of North Korea's operation of nuclear facilities capable of
reprocessing nuclear fuel for use as weapons material, and to consider U.S.
policy options for preventing North Korean development of nuclear weapons.
Includes transcript (p. 51-75) of Subcom markup session on the following
resolutions:
H. Con. Res. 240 (text, amended text, p. 52-55, 57-63), to condemn the
killing of civilians in East Timor by the Indonesian military, and urge
the Indonesian government to prosecute members of the military involved
in the killings.
H. Con. Res. 179 (text, p. 65-70), to express the sense of Congress that
Japan should be encouraged to purchase U.S. and developing country
agricultural commodities for donation to international hunger
alleviation programs.
H. Con. Res. 189 (text, p. 72-74), to urge the Vietnamese Government to
release all remaining political prisoners detained in reeducation camps
and all individuals imprisoned in recent years for their political or
religious beliefs, and to permit the immediate departure of former
reeducation camp detainees for resettlement in the U.S.
