Hearing before the Subcom on Asian and Pacific Affairs to consider H.R. 85
(text, p. 4-6; dept rpt, sectional analysis, p. 25-29), the New Zealand
Military Preference Elimination Act, and draft amended version, the New
Zealand Military Preference Suspension Act (text, p. 7-9), both to amend the
Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Arms Export Control Act.
H.R. 85 would eliminate U.S. security assistance and arms export
preferences for New Zealand. Amended version would suspend U.S. security
assistance and arms export preferences and provide the President with
authority to renew U.S. preferences under specified conditions.
