Hearing in San Diego, Calif., before the Subcom on Commerce, Consumer, and
Monetary Affairs to examine local, U.S., and Mexican economic effects of
U.S. participation in the Mexican Government Maquiladora program allowing
U.S. company ownership of Mexican facilities for assembly of U.S.-produced
components and duty-free reentry of assembled goods into the U.S.
Also examines the role and impact of foreign trade zones (FTZs) involving
Federal designation of areas in which goods imported for assembly as U.S.
exports are exempt from duties and import quotas.
