 Seventeenth in a series of volumes based on previously unpublished
 executive session transcripts of hearings before the Committee on Foreign
 Affairs on important foreign policy issues, 1943-56.
   This volume focuses on U.S. policy in the Far East and South Asia and is
 divided into three sections as follows:
 a. Hearings relating to post-WWII U.S.-Japan relations, including peace
     treaty negotiations and bilateral security and political agreements (p.
     1-106).
 b. Hearings relating to Korean War hostilities and peace negotiations (p.
     107-249).
 c. Hearings relating to U.S. foreign aid and propaganda in Asia (p.
     251-396).
 Also contains the following transcripts:
 a. Report presented on Apr. 23, 1953, with brief Administration
     participation, of 1953 special study mission to India and Pakistan led
     by Rep. Chester E. Merrow (R-NH), focusing on U.S. economic aid, water
     resource development, and disputes over Kashmir province control and
     water supply problems (p. 261-293).
 b. Report presented on Jan. 25, 1956, of Oct.-Dec. 1955 special study
     mission to the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Western
     Pacific led by Rep. Clement J. Zablocki (D-Wis), focusing on
     Arab-Israeli conflict, and U.S. policies and programs and Communist
     influence in various countries (p. 361-396).
 Hearings were held on Apr. 5 and July 11, 1951, and Jan. 21, Feb. 27, May
 20, and June 5, 1952, before the Subcom on the Far East and the Pacific
 Ocean Area; on Feb. 17, 1954, and Apr. 21 and 28, 1955, before the Subcom on
 the Far East and the Pacific; and on May 25, 1951, before the Subcom on
 International Organizations.
   Includes introductions to this volume (p. ix-xi) and to major sections
 (p. 5-8, 111-116, 255-259), and notes throughout prepared by University of
 Pittsburgh faculty and staff.
