Report on Dec. 1978-Jan. 1979 Subcom on Asian and Pacific Affairs study
mission conducted by Subcom Chairman Lester L. Wolff (D-NY) to Japan, the
Philippines, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Burma to:
a. Assess recent developments in the Far East affecting U.S. strategic
interests.
b. Determine requirements of U.S. continuing military presence in Asia.
c. Investigate Indochina refuge crisis, focusing on U.S. role in the
refugee program.
d. Observe efforts to control and eradicate international traffic in
illegal narcotics.
Includes findings and recommendations (p. 1-16) and individual country
reports (p. 17-53).
Appendix (p. 55-144) includes U.S.-Philippine Base Agreement, Mar. 14,
