Committee Serial No. 95-71. Hearings before the full committee on July 13
and 14, and before the Subcom on Investigations on all other days, to
investigate the regional political and military implications of a planned
U.S. withdrawal of ground forces from the Republic of Korea (ROK).
Focuses on ability of ROK forces to adequately deter or defeat North
Korean troops after U.S. withdrawal, and ability of nearby U.S. forces to
assist in event of hostilities.
Eleven full committee members participate in questioning of witness on
May 25. Full Committee Member Antonio B. Won Pat (D-Guam) participates in
questioning of witnesses on Jan. 4-6, 9, 10, and 12, 1978.
Hearings on Jan. 4 and 9 were held in Tokyo, Japan; on Jan. 5 and 6 in
Korea; on Jan. 10 in Okinawa; on Jan. 11 in Taiwan; on Jan. 12 and 13 in the
Philippines; and on Jan. 14 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Portions of May 25, July 13, 14, 1977, Jan. 4-6, 9-14, 1978 hearings were
