Hearing before the Subcom on Territories and Insular Affairs on the
following bills:
S. 860 (text and dept rpts, p. 2-39), to authorize funds for the economic
development of the TTPI; to make a contribution to a Micronesian special
fund to pay war claims and make ex gratia contributions; to provide free
entry of TTPI citizens into the U.S.; to amend U.S. tariff schedules to
treat TTPI as a U.S. insular possession; and to permit TTPI citizens to
enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces; and
S.J. Res. 35 (text and dept rpts, p. 40-55), to authorize an ex gratia
contribution to inhabitants of TTPI who suffered damages arising from
World War II and to establish a Micronesian Claims Commission to
administer the war claims.
Includes text of the U.S. treaty with Japan on Micronesian war claims which
is being implemented by proposed bills (p. 55-56).
