Register as a user to receive a library card
Third-year students, graduate students, persons whose term of enrollment has been extended or whose status has changed, and other persons whose library card has expired must pre-register at the General Library, Komaba Library or any other University of Tokyo library that will allow pre-registration. Users who only wish to read and / or copy materials once or twice:
Please bring your ID card with your photo on and apply for library use at the counter. Write down your name and phone number in the form and you will gain access to the library. Users who wish to loan a material or read and/ or copy them several times:
Please fill in necessary details on a CPAS Library User Application Form and bring it to the counter with your ID card with your photo on. (Students are requested to get a signature of their faculty adviser on the form.)
Borrowing
◆ Only books to be borrowed from the CPAS Library are counted. Books from other University of Tokyo libraries are not counted. ◆ Books in other University of Tokyo library collections cannot be ordered to be delivered to the CPAS Library. Requests must be made through the Komaba Library. ◆ The CPAS Library is closed for inventory every year from mid-March to early April. Because of this, all borrowed items must be returned to the library by early March. Items may not be taken out on loan over the end of the fiscal year. To return items
Return books, journals and other materials to the library counter.
Use the book post at the library entrance to return borrowed items after hours. Note, however, that the return date will be marked as the following day. There is a penalty for late returns so please be careful.
Items may also be returned by courier. Pack the items carefully so that they will not be damaged and send them to the address given below. Be sure to include your own name and user ID on the return address label. Note: Japan Post Yu-Pack parcels may take several days to reach the CPAS Library after they are delivered to university headquarters. Please note, however, that items borrowed from other University of Tokyo libraries cannot be returned through the CPAS Library. Renewals
The return date for books taken out on loan can be renewed up to two times. Renewal may not be possible if the item has been reserved by someone else or if the book has been returned late.
How to renew
Bring the item to the library counter before the original due date to have your loan renewed. University members may also renew through MyOPAC. Non-members and persons at a great distance from the library may renew by email or fax. Renewal is not possible for items that have been reserved by someone else. There is a penalty for failing to return such items by their original due date. When renewing by email or fax, make sure to do so in ample time before the original due date.

Campus loan system
Graduate students and faculty outside of the Komaba campus may borrow books from the CPAS Library using the Campus Loan system. Note, however, that the CPAS Library cannot accept delivery requests for books in other University of Tokyo library collections.
User's guide for MyOPAC Delivery Request Service Reservations (university members only)
Log onto MyOPAC, enter the item you want, and click the "Advanced" search key.
Reservations can be made for all items in the "Status" column that are marked, "On loan," "On hold," "In transport," "In process of return." You can reserve by clicking the "Reserve/Hold" button. MyOPAC can be accessed at any time.
Once an item you have reserved becomes available, you will be notified using the method of notification stipulated when you made the reservation. Status may also be checked under MyOPAC's "Confirmation of loans and reservations."
Late returns and penalty
There is a penalty when you fail to return an item by its due date. You will be prohibited from borrowing any other items for the same number of days that you were late, so please be careful.
Document copying
If you would like to make copies of materials, please apply at the counter.
Microform materials
You may view, copy, and download documents on microfilm and microfiche, but you must reserve first. Send an email to the CPAS Library.
Include the following information in your email and send to lib[a]cpas.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp ◆ Your name ◆ The date and time you wish to view the material ◆ If possible, the name of the item or items. Note: Replace "[a]" in the email address above with "@". The fees for use of the reader-printer to make copies is 20 yen per sheet for university members and 40 yen per sheet for non-members. Receipts, in principle, can only be issued after the next day and will take roughly one week to prepare. If you would like your receipts to be post-mailed to you, please provide a self-addressed envelope with stamps for standard-size letter. |
